Theresa K. Cottrell, formerly Theresa K. Phelps, started Phelps Law Office PLC in 2004 to focus on the areas of Probate,Estate Planning and Elder Law.
Admitted to the Bar in 1989, she previously worked at the firm of Van Dam & Jesson, PC in Kentwood, Michigan. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. During law school, Theresa volunteered at the Sixty Plus, Inc. law clinic, providing free legal services to the elderly.
Theresa is active with the State and local bar associations; she is a member of the Probate, Estate Planning and Elder Law Sections of the State Bar of Michigan and is a former chairperson of the steering committee of the Grand Rapids Bar Association Probate Section.
She has lectured in the areas of estate planning and asset protection to legal professionals and lay persons alike. Theresa is active in her church, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, and has volunteered in a variety of ways with local non-profits such as Access of West Michigan and Degage.
Theresa lives in Rockford with her husband, Will. They have two children and one grandchild, with a second grandchild on the way. They enjoy spending time with family and friends, as well as golfing, traveling, and watching college football.
